Shopping in Basildon Town Centre: The Complete Guide
From the Eastgate Shopping Centre to the market and the retail parks — where to shop in Basildon and how to get there.
Basildon is one of the main shopping destinations in south Essex, built around a large pedestrianised town centre with covered malls, a market, and several big out-of-town retail parks.
The Eastgate Shopping Centre
The Eastgate Shopping Centre is the heart of town-centre shopping. It is one of the largest covered centres in Essex, with over 100 shops and restaurants under one roof. Primark and Asda anchor the scheme, alongside high-street names including River Island, New Look, JD Sports and Pandora. The centre has around 1,700 car parking spaces, with free parking for short stays.
The market
Basildon has a long market tradition. Pitsea Market, at Northlands Pavement in Pitsea, is one of the largest open-air markets in Essex, with stalls selling fresh produce, household goods and clothing. Market days and stall information are published by Basildon Borough Council.
Retail parks
For larger stores and easy parking, the Mayflower Retail Park on Gardiners Link (SS14 3HZ) has a Tesco Extra, Next, Lidl, Boots, Clarks, Costa and more. The Festival Leisure Park on Pipps Hill Road North combines shopping and eating with the cinema and other leisure.
Getting there
Basildon railway station, on the c2c line, is on the southern edge of the town centre with direct trains to and from London Fenchurch Street. There is extensive town-centre and retail-park parking for drivers.
