Laindon

A western district of Basildon with New Town housing, the Laindon shopping centre, a c2c station and plotlands heritage.

Laindon lies to the west of Basildon town centre and, like Pitsea, was an established settlement long before the New Town was created. The old Laindon and neighbouring Dunton "plotlands" — informal self-built homes on smallholding plots — are an important part of the area's history, and the Plotlands Museum at Langdon Nature Reserve tells that story.

Modern Laindon is centred on the Laindon Shopping Centre and Laindon Link, with a mix of housing estates, local shops and services. Laindon railway station on the c2c line provides direct trains to London Fenchurch Street, making the area popular with commuters.

Laindon sits close to Langdon Hills and the Langdon Nature Reserve, giving residents easy access to some of the highest ground and best countryside views in south Essex.
