Wickford

A market town in the north of Basildon borough on the River Crouch, with its own high street and a station to London Liverpool Street.

Wickford is a market town in the north of Basildon borough, on the River Crouch. Unlike much of the borough it was never part of the New Town, and it retains the character of an independent Essex town with its own high street, shops and community.

Wickford has a busy town centre along the High Street and London Road (A129), with a mix of national retailers, independent shops, cafés and services. Wickford railway station, on the Shenfield to Southend line, provides direct trains to London Liverpool Street via Shenfield.

The town is well placed for the A127 and A130, and is surrounded by open countryside and garden centres, including the long-established Alton Garden Centre on the Southend Arterial Road.
