GP Surgeries in Basildon: How to Register and Where to Go
From Basildon and Pitsea to Laindon, Billericay and Wickford, here is how to register with a GP, which surgeries the NHS lists, and who to call when yours is closed.
How do I register with a GP in Basildon?
Anyone in England can register with a GP surgery, and the NHS is clear that you do not need proof of address or ID to do it. You give your name, date of birth and address, and an NHS number helps the surgery find your records but is not essential. You can start online through the NHS's how to register with a GP surgery page: enter your postcode, pick a surgery that offers online registration and fill in the form, which the NHS says takes around 15 minutes. Registration is normally completed within about five days, and if you would rather do it in person, most reception desks will hand you the same form.
Most people have to register with a surgery close to where they live. A practice can refuse you if your address falls outside its catchment area, although some accept out-of-area patients, and the NHS search lets you filter for those. If you register a long way from home, the NHS warns you may find it harder to get home visits, urgent care and community services, so it is worth asking the surgery about that before you sign up.
Which GP surgeries are there in Basildon?

Rectory Road has a site of Murree Medical Group. In Laindon, Laindon Medical Group is at Laindon Health Centre, High Road (SS15 5TR, 01268 209363), open 8am to noon and 1pm to 6.30pm on weekdays.
What about Billericay and Wickford?
Billericay has several practices on the NHS listings, including The Billericay Medical Practice at The Health Centre, Stock Road (CM12 0BJ, 01277 658071, open 8am to 6.30pm Monday to Friday), The New Surgery on Stock Road, Chapel Street Surgery, Queens Park Surgery on The Pantiles and Western Road Surgery. In Wickford you will find Robert Frew Medical Centre on Silva Island Way (SS12 9NR, 01268 209229, weekdays 8am to 6.30pm), Swanwood Partnership and London Road Surgery, both around Market Avenue and Market Road, and Shotgate Surgery on Southend Road. At the time of writing (September 2026), the NHS listing for Shotgate Surgery showed it was not taking new patients, while the others named here showed as accepting them, but always confirm on the practice's own NHS page before you rely on that.
How do I book an appointment or order a repeat prescription?
Many Basildon-area surgeries now ask you to contact them online or through a messaging form first, rather than only ringing at 8am, and each practice sets its own system. Laindon Medical Group, for example, says on its own site that it uses the Accurx messaging service for appointment requests. Check your surgery's website, which is linked from its NHS page, to see how it wants you to ask. If you are 13 or over and registered with a GP in England, the NHS App is another route into your healthcare: you can download it from the Apple App Store or Google Play, or log in through the NHS website without installing anything. Whether you can book appointments or order prescriptions in it depends on what your own surgery has switched on.
Who do I contact when my GP is closed?
When a surgery is shut, NHS 111 is the first port of call. Calling 111 is free, and 111 online is available for people aged five and over, with the phone line recommended instead for children under five. The NHS says 111 can direct you to A&E, an urgent treatment centre, an out-of-hours GP or self-care at home.
